A vision presented to Sky Sports for their inaugural EFL titles, putting forward an innovative approach to transforming football team badges into volumetric embroidered representations; A perfect opportunity to trial the new image-to-3D tooling at Coffee & TV developed by myself, with rapid procedural turnaround capabilities.

A generative embroidery patch for Nottingham Forest.

The system employs a Houdini HDA suite I created - the Embroidery toolkit - as well as a multitude of machine-learning tools that convert images to volumetric images and represent their underlying skeletal structure.

By creating a workflow that is automated and requires only creative input, new additions to the Championship, through promotion or relegation, can be rendered and previewed almost immediately. A fully USD-compliant output from Solaris allows clients to reuse these assets and implement them in their own 3D simulations.

Multi-stage 3D analysis for generating badge embroidery from a single image.
An early test showcasing how a custom-trained AI model and Houdini workflow can convert a Simpsons clip to embroidery.

After collecting a dataset from the near-automated embroidery process, a custom AI model can also be trained to recreate images as embroidery, that are temporally stable and very cost-efficient to run inference on.
